Fifth World Landslide Forum, November 2 – 6, 2021, Kyoto, Japan
Implementing and Monitoring the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships 2015-2025
-Voluntary contribution to the Sendai Framework 2015-2030 and
the Agenda 2030 -Sustainable Development Goals-

 

Dear Colleagues of the World Landslide Community,

The International Consortium on Landslides (ICL) and the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships 2015-2025 invite you to join the 5th World Landslide Forum (WLF5) to be held November 2-6, 2021, in Kyoto Japan. This Forum will include a mid-term review of the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships, voluntary contribution to the Sendai Framework 2015-2030 and the Agenda 2030 – Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Participants of the Fourth World Landslide Forum adopted the 2017 Ljubljana Declaration on Landslide Risk Reduction – contributing to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The Declaration proposed the Kyoto 2020 Commitment or Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk in 2017. The Final version of Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020 was adopted in 2019 ICL-IPL Conference in Paris, France. It is planned to launch during the Fifth World Landslide Forum in Kyoto, Japan on 3 November 2020. The Commitment aims to establish in the medium and long term a global alliance that will accelerate and incentivize action for landslide risk reduction.

Themes of WLF5

Theme 1: Sendai Partnerships 2015-2025 and Kyoto 2020 Commitment
Theme 2: Hazard and vulnerability mapping and zonation
Theme 3: Monitoring and early warning
Theme 4: Testing, modeling and risk assessment
Theme 5: Catastrophic landslides: causes and consequences
Theme 6: Specific topics in landslide science and applications


The 5th of November was designated as “World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD)” by 70th session of the UN General Assembly 2015. It recognizes Landslides near a coastline or at the bottom of the ocean as one major causes of Tsunami. Symposia or sessions on landslide – induced tsunami will be organized on 5th November 2021.

Publication of WLF5

  • Thematic issue for WLF5 Landslides Vol. 17 (10). Free access from 10 Oct.to 10 Nov. 2020
  • Full color books under the above eight themes (similar to the books for WLF1-WLF4)
  • CD proceedings contain 6-10 pages papers. Each paper includes one page abstract (title/author/office and abstract) and 10-18 PPT (2 PPT/page).

Call for Speakers in WLF5

WLF5 secretariat is calling for speakers in WLF5. Those who are willing to attend and speak in WLF5 are invited to register WLF5 by completing the Preliminary Registration Form for which is available in WLF5 webpage,

Speakers of WLF5 can choose the publication types, 1) Thematic issue of Landslides, 2) one of full color books, 3) CD proceedings (Abstract and PPT).

Speakers in parallel sessions include authors of papers accepted in the thematic issue of Journal (20 minutes), invited speakers (15 minutes), authors of full color books and CD proceeding accepted by theme/session coordinators (10-20 minutes).

Theme / Session conveners will make a programme of one time slot (90 minutes) or two time slots (180 minutes) or more by allocating the time for each speaker (10 -20 minutes).
